Happy Independence Day from Kilwinning Crosse!
On July 4th, 1776, men and masons representing 13 British colonies met in Philadelphia, PA to sign a document that would change the course of history.
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.
These men were standing for their homes, their businesses and well-being, their values, and their sense of individual dignity. There was not assurance that their endeavor would succeed or that they would not all be found by the mighty British Empire and executed at traitors to the crown. Still, they braved impossible odds to stand for what they believed to be true. With the divine intervention of the supreme architect of the universe, these rebels would found a great nation, one like the world had never seen before. It would stand for the same principles that many Masons exhume in their own lives: equality for all, benevolence in authority, and the rule of the people.
On this Independence Day, join the brethren of Kilwinning Crosse in observing the sacrifices and accomplishments of our founding fathers and celebrating independence from oppression and tyranny in the name of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Happy Independence Day.
