May 2022 Trestle Board

Brethren,

I hope that this month’s Trestle Board finds you in good health! I really enjoy Masonic education and its spin-offs. Today, while looking a little deeper into the town of Bowling Green for Lodge related purposes, I discovered that Bowling Green is considered to be “the cradle of American Horse Racing” and, until 1837, was called New Hope. It is also home to the oldest continuously inhabited residence in Virginia! The Wikipedia article on the town also mentions our Lodge at least twice and it appears that the Lodge is one of the Town’s most famous features!

The Lodge enjoyed another good month in April including our hosting of the first SLOT training of the year attended by representatives from four of our district Lodges. This training was conducted by District Education Officer Chris Tripp from Fredericksburg. At our April stated we also enjoyed a talk by the DEO which was centered around this year’s theme of resurrection. The stated was well attended and preceded, as usual, by an enjoyable meal prepared by the ladies of the Eastern Star. Our meals start at 6:30pm for which a donation of just $10 is asked. We are always able to finish with plenty of time to spare before the meeting.

All Covid restrictions have been lifted by the Grand Lodge of Virginia and we are back in full swing. Covid has hurt many institutions as well as Masonic Lodges. Attendance necessarily fell away and people got out of the habit of going to Lodge. Well, we’re here when you’re ready. I encourage those of you who have been hesitant to start re-attending to take that first step and come join us!

Our next Stated Communication is this coming Monday, May 9th, and we are hoping for great attendance! Hopefully we will ballot on at least one petition. As usual there will be a meal beforehand, startiing at 6:30pm.

Practices continue to be held on Mondays at 7pm at the Lodge and we have a group of regular attendees. If you would like to learn a part for a degree, refresh your memory on Lodge opening and closing procedures or re-learn a catechism, please come and join us. We are flexible in what we work on according to the needs and desires of the attendees.

On the Internet, our Facebook page “Friends of Kilwinning Crosse Lodge No. 2-237” is thriving and has an ever increasing number of followers. Check it out!

Worshipful Brothers Tom Lewis and Mark Bissoon attended the April meeting of the Ladysmith Ruritans where the Lodge was recognized for its contribution to the Polar Plunge.and donation was made to a local food pantry.

We are still looking for some volunteers to man the table at the Caroline’s Promise event when it comes around.

Discussions are under way to hold a Lodge cookout/picnic in the summer (probably July) and suggestions for where, when, why and how will be gratefully accepted. W.B. Mark has offered the use of the  parking area across the street from the Lodge as a venue and, at present, barbecue/grilling is suggested. More to come on this as decisions are made.

I think that’s about it for this month.

If anyone would like to contribute any items or articles to the trestleboard please email them to me and I will try to accomodate.

     Fraternally,

     Richard J. Fisher
     Worshipful Master
